Two Waterfalls

I put this up on another site and this picture was picked apart for two reasons. They said it was way to common, and because the back waterfall was out of focus. I wanted the other waterfall out of focus to give the image some depth and not to take away from main subject. Let me know what you think. Am I seeing this differently because I took it?

Did you post it on OnExposure perhaps? As a regular contributor to that site, I have had plenty of stuff rejected over the months.

The first thing I notice is the back waterfall is out of focus. Then I notice the reflections in the back pool that are very nice. At first blush, the out of focus background appears to be a technical problem. However, you say that is purposeful, so that is fine. I think the main problem with the image is, despite the background being out of focus, the foreground waterfall is not that interesting. In other words, the stuff in the back ground is more interesting.

Sean, I'm a lurker who loves your site but I have no knowledge of photography so I'm not sure whether my opinion will be meaningful or not.

It almost seems as if we are looking at two separate pictures that have been photoshopped. Maybe it's the angle that is somewhat distracting.... I think I might prefer seeing more of the top waterfall & a little less of the bottom whose rock formation overpowers the shot. It's still an interesting pic though.... just not one of your best.

I think this photo is great I see nothing wrong with it. I love the reflections and the water coming over the rocks great job.

Actually, when I first looked at this I thought it was so wonderful because you had put the back waterfall out of focus... that in and of itself makes it un-ordinary. Great shot Sean!! The rest are hacks!
